Understanding Your Fuel Score

Understanding Your Fuel Score

The number at the top of Fuel — a quick read on the quality of what you're eating.

Getting here: it's the big number at the top of the Fuel screen.

What the score is

Your Fuel score is a single daily number with a word next to it — for example 36 “low”, 50 “fair” or 67 “great”. It's an at-a-glance sense of how nutritious your day has been, and it updates as you log. Each day has its own score, which is why the little rings on the week strip fill differently day to day.

How the score works

Your Fuel score is based on the Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) — a well-established measure of overall diet quality. Instead of just counting calories, it looks at the quality of what you eat: nutritious choices lift it, and less healthy ones bring it down.

Choices that tend to raise your score:

  • Plenty of vegetables and fruit

  • Whole grains

  • Healthy fats (e.g. nuts, olive oil, oily fish)

  • Lean protein and pulses

Choices that tend to lower it:

  • Sugary drinks

  • Heavily processed foods and processed/red meat

  • A lot of added salt (sodium)

So the best way to lift your score is simply to eat well across the day — the same choices that build your Food Quality score.

What the labels mean

The word beneath the number is a simple band — roughly low, fair and great as the score rises — so you don't have to interpret the number itself.

Who can see it

Your coach can see your Fuel score on their side, so it helps them keep an eye on how your nutrition is going and step in if needed.
